Youth Ministry

There is a tremendous need on the island of Kauai for effective youth ministry.  The challenges for teens are compounded by the natural limitations of the island, prolific drug use and a spiritual environment that is conducive to New Age cults and a variety of other anti-Christian religions.  It's amazing to realize that 80% of believers came to Christ during their teenage years!  That makes targeting this age group a particularly vital objective if we are to effectively reach the island of Kauai with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The wonderful news is that there are open doors of ministry to teens all over this island! We have our combined Junior & Senior High Youth Ministry meetings on Sunday evenings, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the CCK sanctuary (the big white tent) on our church property along the Kapaa Bypass Road.

We enjoy occasional camps and retreats and sleep-overs, along with beach parties and service projects to keep the gang reaching out.  You can click HERE to download a Medical Release and Permission Form if you desire to participate in an upcoming youth event.  You must bring a completed and signed copy with you to the event.

Camp Mauka Was Awesome!

This was the first year of Camp Mauka here on Kauai.  Both the Junior High and the High School camps were a great success.  [Click Here] to check out the comments the campers made about the camp...

Spring Camp 2009 was a hit!

We took a group of 20 over to Camp Homelani on the North Shore of Oahu for the weekend along with 180 Junior & Senior High students from all over the Hawaiian islands. The teaching times of the camp was the life of Joseph, but our theme, "I Don't Know What To Do, But My Eyes Are On You!" came from 2 Chronicles 20:12. The Bible teaching times were impacting and relevant, the praise and worship times were inspiring, and the activities and games were awesome.

The 180 students were split into 18 teams in which each team had at least 3 Jr. Highers, 3 High schools, 3 guys, 3 girls, and no more than 4 from any one church. It was a great way to mix up the kids and make new friendships. The teams came up with a name, a team flag, a team chant, and had to eat, study and play as a team. Each team competed for points as the weekend went on, including coming up with a 3 minute skit that included some strange props, something related to the camp theme, or something from the teachings or teachers. They were performed Saturday evening. Most were very funny.

After the camp was over, our youth went over to check out Pipeline Beach. A few of us got in the water, since the waves were small. Then we headed into Honolulu for dinner and ice skating at The Ice Palace. What a blast! After that we spent the night at Calvary Chapel Honolulu and went to the Ala Moana Mall in the morning, after devotions. The flight, the van rides, the camp, the ice skating, the mall - everything went well and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.

The best part was to hear how the weekend made an impact in the lives of the youth. They commented on areas of their personal lives that needed to change, relationships that needed mending or ending, and their desire to keep their eyes on the Lord, no matter if circumstances in their lives were falling apart or going well. I think everyone will want to retrun next year!

Let No One Despise Your Youth!

1 Timothy 4:12 says, "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity."  As believers in Jesus Christ, youung people have been given God's Spirit, who is able to equip, inspire, train and empower them to accomplish so much for His Kingdom.
